6 Truths About Living With A Cat

posted by The Daily Fluff December 20, 2017 0 comments

Thinking about getting a cat? Owning one for the first time? Whatever your situation may be, you’re in for a treat! Cats are everything you would expect them to be: cute, furry and cuddly! However, if you’re new to the world of cats, then there are a few things about living with them that will surprise you. Don’t freak out. At the end of the day, you’ll never know how you lived without them!

Here are 6 truths about living with a cat:

  1. I Am The Greatest Star:

While they may be the apple of your eye, cats feel otherwise. As far as your kitty’s concerned, everything revolves around them. They are the sun, the stars and the moon. Unlike dogs, who will do anything to please you, cats see themselves as your master. Don’t feel bad for worshiping them, however. As a matter of fact, they get a kick out of it. But don’t be afraid to be firm with them from time to time. After all, it is you who is the true master of the house!

  1. Mine! All Mine!

Because they think they are the rulers of the world, cats will believe that everything in the house belongs to them, including you! Clothing, furniture, food (yes, your food) and more, cats will have no problem doing whatever they please with your stuff. They may sleep on your bed, hide in your wardrobe and steal your food off the counter. You might as well say goodbye to your favourite glass bowl if your kitty decides it’s their new toy. This is why you need to make sure your valuables are well protected from your cat’s little paws.

  1. I Can’t Be Tamed:

One of the big differences between cats and dogs is how they interact with their owners. Dogs can easily be trained to respond to commands from their owners. Cats, on the other hand, run by their own rules. As it goes, cats come to you when they feel like it, not when they’re told. While their independence should be applauded, it’s also something that needs to be controlled. Simply asking them to do something isn’t enough. You may have to take a little bit of action if you want your cat to do what you tell them.

  1. I Did Not See That Coming:

Something that will both surprise and scare you is how unpredictable cats can be. You two may be sitting on the couch one day and your cat may suddenly freak out and do a somersault off the cushion. Or you may come home from work one night and find your cat has staked its territory on your bed and will not move, no matter how many times they scratch you. But there’s nothing to be truly afraid of. Some things your kitty does may be your fondest memories of them. It could even be a YouTube sensation if you happen to record it!

  1. May I Offer This Complimentary Massage?

A quirk you will quickly love is your cat’s habit of kneading everything. While not all of them do it, many cats, young and old, tend to knead their paws on surfaces. From the carpet to your tummy, there are many theories as to why cats love to knead things. It may be to make a comfy spot for them to lie on, to mark their territory, or simply because they’re in a happy mood! If you’re lucky enough to receive one of their professional massages, don’t be nervous! Their claws shouldn’t hurt you. Just sit back and relax while your kitty purrs their kneading song!

  1. We’re Going To Be Best Friends:

No matter what quirks your cat may have and how strict you may be with them, you two will soon love each other with all your hearts! Like all best friends, you two may have things that you dislike about the other. You may quarrel and fight with each other when you’re both not getting your way. But there will also be times when you will rely on the other for comfort, laughs and a warm cuddle. The good days will certainly outweigh the bad, and you will treasure those days forever!

Living with a cat will be a rollercoaster ride that you will not want to get off of. So hold on tight, because you’re going to have the best ride of your life!

4 Fun Indoor Games to Play With Your Cat

posted by The Daily Fluff April 5, 2017 0 comments

Think cats only love to sleep all day? Think again! Contrary to popular belief, cats are just as active as dogs, and need daily exercise as much as they do. However, you simply cannot take your cat for a walk outside. Think of the chaos that would happen! That’s why we’ve come up with a list of fun games you can play with your cat right in your very own home!

  1. Fetch:

Despite what you may think, cats love to play fetch like dogs do! Get a small sized toy and wave it in your kitty’s face to get their attention. Throw it across the room in an easy-to-access space and watch as your puss chases after it. You’ll be surprised to know that your cat is likely to pick it up in their mouth and bring it back to you. If they don’t bring it back, that’s okay! Try reinforcing a fetching behaviour by rewarding them with treats or a nice pat. Otherwise, just pick the toy up and throw it again. You’ll be able to get some exercise too!

  1. Chasey:

This game can come with hilarious results. It involves a string, a feathered wand or even a stick from your backyard (make sure it’s safe). Grab your cat’s attention by dragging it across the floor in their view. Your kitten’s eyes will grow big as they notice the strange presence that has invaded their space. Slowly back away as the object is pulled from their view. As you move, your cat may wiggle their butts in anticipation. When they’re ready, your wild cat will pounce! Feel free to get creative by increasing and decreasing the speed of your dragging, or even waving the object in the air. Your cat will run, jump and leap as they try to catch its prey. They will not rest until their foe is defeated!

  1. Boxes of Fun:

For the D.I.Y master, why not build a box fort for your little adventurer to explore? Create a cubby house by grabbing some cardboard boxes and cutting out entrances, passageways and pits for your cat to scavenge through. Your curious kitten with love conquering and claiming themselves to be the king or queen of the castle! Try throwing in a ball or some food to liven up the quest. After all, every great explorer needs a fun challenge to keep the story interesting!

  1. Hide and Seek:

This classic game can be played in a number of ways so you and your cat will never be bored. If your cat is the seeker, hide in a spot and peak out so they’ll notice you. Watch as your little predator stalks you like you’re their prey. Be careful. Cats can be crafty and will sneak up to you before you know it. If you prefer to be the seeker, lay out some paper bags for your cat to hide in. Of course it’ll be easy to find them as they cannot keep still in their teeny tiny forts. Make sure the bags are handle free to avoid choking. Have some fun and poke the bags. Your cat will whip out their paws so their disturbance will be gone!

It will be impossible for you and your cat to be bored with this list of games. Every day will be a fun-filled feline frenzy!

6 Things Your Cat Needs For The Perfect Life

posted by The Daily Fluff January 30, 2017 0 comments

Do you have a cat? Do you love them to bits? Do you want them to have the (purr)fect life? You’ve come to the right place! Cats need lots of love and attention so that they can return the favour. Here’s a list of all the things your cat needs to have the perfect life!

Here’s a list of all the things your cat needs to have the perfect life!

  1. A Healthy Diet:

Your cats need to be well fed so they can become big and strong. However, it’s important to know what they should eat. A healthy diet for your cat provides strong muscles, soft fur, fresh teeth and a suitable weight. Different meals work for different cats, so check with your vet what your cat should be eating and how much.

  1. A Comfy Bed:

It’s a well-known fact that cats sleep more than humans. They sleep about 16-20 hours a day, something that we’re envious of. Nevertheless, because they sleep so much, your kitty needs a fresh and comfy bed. It has to be the right size, and it has to been cleaned regularly so they don’t sleep in their own loose fur. It’s also important that they’re cleaned regularly for health benefits, both ours and our cats. This can be done with vacuums, brushes, or in the washing machine (check if the bed is suitable). Your cat will have the best beauty sleep ever!

  1. A Bunch of Toys:

Kitties are a playful bunch, so they’ll need some toys to play with. You can buy some toys from your local pet store, such as balls and fake mice. However, you can also make your own toys! Grab some loose string from around the house and have your cat chase it around. Or get some tin foil and roll it up into a ball for you cat to skid around your floors.

  1. A Sunny Day:

Cats need their daily dose of vitamin D as much as we do. When you’re heading out for the day, let you cat outside so that they can run around or take a nap beneath the trees. Some cats can be indoor ones, so give them a small handful of biscuits to lure them out. Your cat needs to be suitable to go outside too. Make sure that they’re not likely to get into fights or run away. You don’t want anything to happen to your little ball of fur!

  1. Plenty of Grooming:

When your cat goes outside, their fur is likely to get covered with leaves, dirt and sticks. Smooth their fur down with a good brush. Have their fur soft and shiny with a regular brushing session. It will reduce the likeliness of fleas and tics as well. Your cat may not like their knots getting brushed out, and they may bite or scratch you. This is a good opportunity to clip their nails. That way their nails are healthy, and they won’t be as sharp if they should scratch you. If you’re skittish about your cat scratching you, your Vet or local pet groomer will be happy to do it for you.

  1. A Bowl of Water:

Last, but certainly not least, a well-hydrated kitty is a happy kitty. Your cat will need a big bowl of water to drink throughout the day. Sorry, they need SEVERAL bowls of water. Have one next to where your cat eats and sleeps, and a couple outside, in the front and back yard. Especially during the warmer months, your kitty will likely get hot and bothered quickly. After all, they are wearing a fur coat that they can’t take off. Make sure that the bowls are clean and that they’re full. Your cat will gulp down that water fast.

Your cat will have the best owner ever with all these things you can provide for them. Be prepared for lots of cuddles as a reward!
