Summer Activities For You And Your Pooch

posted by The Daily Fluff February 21, 2019 0 comments

The only thing better than spending time with your furry friend is doing fun activities with them in summer! So, we’ve put together a list of ideas that we know both you and your pets will enjoy over the next few months.

Outdoor Cinemas:

Moonlight Cinema is back for 2019 with dog-friendly sessions in Melbourne, as well as Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. Featuring advanced screenings of Second Act, The Favourite and Storm Boy, it’s the perfect activity to bring your furry friend along to. The season finishes in March, so get in quick to secure your Gold Grass Package.

If you’re worried about being in an outdoor space with your best friend, you can try the drive-in. The Lunar Drive in Dandenong for example allows dogs, as long as it’s on a lead at all times and does not enter the cafe. Plus, doggy doos must be collected which we can all agree to a fair call!

Winery Tour:

Gourmet Pawprints now offers a winery tour around the great wine regions of Victoria for both you and your pooch. On the bus, there’s a seat for both of you, as well as doggy seat belts, blankets and gift bags.  Your pet will even be spoilt with a pooch massage and movie during lunch. For pricing and to book, see https://gourmetpawprints.com.au/.

Yoga

If you’re already into yoga, why not try train your best bud to join you. Check out these two fitness fanatics!

Volunteer

Did you know you can become a volunteer, with your dog, and visit places such as hospitals, nursing homes, mental health units, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres and children with special needs? It’s called pet therapy. See the Delta SocietyLort Smith Animal Hospital and PAWS Pet Therapy to find out more about what’s involved.

Bar and Food Truck Stop:

Everyone loves a food truck, and with up to seven trucks onsite at once, you’ll be sure to enjoy Welcome to Thornbury. At this licensed venue, dogs are not only welcomed, they’re encouraged. It’s the perfect activity for a balmy Saturday night. To check out the truck roster, head over to https://welcometothornbury.com/

Beach

If your dog likes to paddle in the ocean, you should take them to one of Melbourne’s dog friendly beaches. Our favourite is Brighton Dog Beach, as there is plenty of space for your pup to splash about and for you to throw a ball around. If it’s their first time at the beach, they’ll be quick to work out that sea water isn’t for drinking. So, don’t forget to bring them some fresh water to drink afterwards.

Our Top 10 Animal Sidekicks

posted by The Daily Fluff June 28, 2018 0 comments

We all think that our pets are superheroes…they can run at lightning speed, make us happy when we’re sad, and have super senses when it comes to food! We’ve come up with a list of our top 10 favourite animal sidekicks from the big screen!

  1. Timon & Pumbaa (The Lion King)

Why have one sidekick when you can have two! Timon and Pumbaa are the ultimate sidekicks. They’re silly, wise-cracking and caring, and did we mention they sing two of the world’s greatest songs? ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’.

  1. Scooby-Doo

Scooby is one of the most iconic sidekicks in TV history. He’s Shaggy’s best pal and together they helped solve many mysteries…with many silly mistakes of course, and the help of a few scooby snacks along the way.

  1. Hedwig (Harry Potter)

Hedwig and Harry were the best of friends. She could manoeuvre windows and doorways to successfully deliver parcels (sorry Errol). But most notable of all, she sacrificed herself to save Harry…yep, we’re still recovering.

  1. Donkey (Shrek)

This waffle loving legend is just that…a legend. He sings, befriends almost everyone, and marries a fire breathing dragon. If that’s not the definition of a legend, we don’t know what is!

  1. Dug (Up)

He’s a talking dog! That’s not the main reason we love Dug but being able to communicate with man’s best friend is a definite pro! Dug is bubbly, loves squirrels and won’t take no for an answer – all signs of an excellent sidekick!

  1. Dory (Finding Nemo)

Anyone who can speak whale is a friend worth having if you ask us! Dory is a fun-loving, friendly, short term memory loss suffering fish – what’s not to love? She also gave us some fabulous life-long advice when she said – “just keep swimming”.

  1. Maximus (Tangled)

The noblest horse of them all. Even though he doesn’t speak, Maximus is hilarious – like funniest horse in film history funny. He has impeccable tracking skills, the nose of a sniffer dog and is as noble as noble can be.

  1. Marcel (Friends)

Oh Marcel, where do we begin? Ross adored his capuchin monkey Marcel. After authorities learnt that he was an illegal exotic animal, a chase to find and capture Marcel took place. He ended up in a zoo and then later on ended up a famous movie star monkey!

  1. Slinky (Toy Story)

This little dachshund is truly an asset to our old friends Buzz and Woody. Without Slinky’s exceptional flexibility, the Toy Story gang would be spread far and wide! Go Slinky!

  1. Garfield

Garfield, the orange, fuzzy tabby cat is all of our heroes. He hates Mondays, loves coffee and adores lasagna…can you get a more relatable sidekick?! Did you know that Garfield has been around for 40 years? Crazy right!

How did we go with our top 10 animal sidekicks? Is there any that you think we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below!

3 DIY Tips To Look After Your Pet On A Hot Summer’s Day

posted by The Daily Fluff January 2, 2018 0 comments

The summer heat can be pretty uncomfortable for humans. But think how much more uncomfortable it is for our furry little friends. They are sweltering under all that fur and hair, so it is very easy for them to become over heated and dehydrated. That’s where you come in!

If you are struggling to come up with ways to keep your pet cool, that’s not a problem! Here are some creative ways you can keep your pet cool over the summer!

  1. Water Park:

Your dog (or fearless feline) will love splashing around your back yard in their very own water park! Simply visit your local store and purchase a kid-sized pool to fill water in. Your pet will run around like a maniac without feeling worn out! Even if they don’t like water much, you can splash water on them to help them cool down. Or if you prefer, grab out your hose and give them a nice, relaxing shower. If you have a sprinkler, pull it out and connect it up so that your crazy caper can run around through the water!

  1. Ice Treats:

This easy, fun and, yes, even yummy idea will have your pet rolling over with delight! Nice, cold ice treats are great for being so effective and you can use them again and again! There are plenty of ways you can give ice treats to your pet. Grab some small ice blocks out of your fridge and scatter them across the floor. Your pet will love chasing them around the house while keeping them cool at the same time. If your pet loves sweet treats, look up the many easy-to-follow recipes online, from fruit flavoured snacks to doggie ice-cream!

  1. Give Them Shade:

If your pet likes to be outside, whether they run around or have a nice nap, then they will definitely get hot quick. Shade will not only help them stay out of the blistering sun and becoming overheated, but they’ll be protected from hot concrete that can damage their paws. If you have an outdoor umbrella, pop it up and have your pet sprawl out underneath with a chilled bowl of water. If you don’t have an outdoor umbrella, pop up some smaller ones and place them on the ground or in flower pots so your pet can be protected wherever they go. Or you can pop up a tent and your pet can go on camping without leaving their back yard!

These DIY methods are so easy to follow that you won’t have to worry about your pet being overheated. They will be the coolest pet around!

8 Signs Your Pet Loves You

posted by The Daily Fluff December 31, 2017 0 comments

Ever wonder what your pet really thinks about you or if they are just using you for food? We pour so much love into our four-legged best friend. While they can’t say ‘I love you’ there are other, sometimes bizarre, ways in which they show their affection.

In preparation for Valentine’s Day here is a list of the many ways our pets show their love:

  1. They bring you ‘presents’:

Although not what you’d normally put on your wish list, it is always the thought that counts. Cats are natural predators, so in leaving the odd dead mouse or bird for you, they are either teaching you how to hunt or showing off their abilities. Either way it’s a loving gesture.

Dog’s bred for hunting will do this as well as it also shows they are a top dog!

  1. Snuggles:

If your dog likes to sleep in your bed and cuddle with you then it is a big sign that they like you. Especially after feeding time or in the morning when their motives aren’t food related.

Cats like warm and safe places to sleep, that is mostly your lap and sometimes, for inexplicable reasons, your head.

  1. Tail wagging:

Body language is an excellent way of reading your pet’s mood. When a dog is wagging their tail or their ears are lifted it is safe to say your pup is happy that you are around.

The tail is also a useful tool for reading cats. The word is if a cat’s tail is up and twitches a little that cat is sending off friendly vibes.

  1. Hanging out and following you:

If you’ve ever wondered why your pet follows you around the house or waits for you outside the bathroom, it’s simply because they enjoy your company. Dogs are pack animals and love being around family.

While cats are notoriously independent they are not above seeking company as well.

  1. Eye contact and kitty winks:

Did you know that when your cute kitty winks at you or squints they are saying ‘you’re alright?!’ It’s like a stamp of approval that shows that they trust you.

Dogs are less complicated. Sometimes all you need to do is make brief eye contact with a pooch and they are bounding over to you with a goofy look on their face.

  1. Showing their belly:

When cats show their belly to you it is a sign that they trust you. If you’ve ever had a cat scratch you when giving their tum a little rub they say it’s because it’s a breach of their trust.

On the other hand, most dogs love having their belly scratched. A dog rolls over as a sign of trust as well, but they may just want to scratch a place they can’t reach.

  1. Playing:

Playing catch or tug-of-war with your pup is a good way to strengthen your bond. There’s no harm in a bit of roughhousing as well if it doesn’t go too far. It shows that your dog likes having fun with you!

But it’s not just dogs! Cat’s love playing with their owners as well! A curled tail usually means they are in a playful mood so it’s time to bring out the toys!

  1. The big welcome home:

It’s one of the more obvious signs when you come home and your furry best friend is nearly knocking over furniture in their excitement to see you. They may spring down the hall, rub against your legs, and then pretend they never cared you left.

4 Fun Indoor Games to Play With Your Cat

posted by The Daily Fluff April 5, 2017 0 comments

Think cats only love to sleep all day? Think again! Contrary to popular belief, cats are just as active as dogs, and need daily exercise as much as they do. However, you simply cannot take your cat for a walk outside. Think of the chaos that would happen! That’s why we’ve come up with a list of fun games you can play with your cat right in your very own home!

  1. Fetch:

Despite what you may think, cats love to play fetch like dogs do! Get a small sized toy and wave it in your kitty’s face to get their attention. Throw it across the room in an easy-to-access space and watch as your puss chases after it. You’ll be surprised to know that your cat is likely to pick it up in their mouth and bring it back to you. If they don’t bring it back, that’s okay! Try reinforcing a fetching behaviour by rewarding them with treats or a nice pat. Otherwise, just pick the toy up and throw it again. You’ll be able to get some exercise too!

  1. Chasey:

This game can come with hilarious results. It involves a string, a feathered wand or even a stick from your backyard (make sure it’s safe). Grab your cat’s attention by dragging it across the floor in their view. Your kitten’s eyes will grow big as they notice the strange presence that has invaded their space. Slowly back away as the object is pulled from their view. As you move, your cat may wiggle their butts in anticipation. When they’re ready, your wild cat will pounce! Feel free to get creative by increasing and decreasing the speed of your dragging, or even waving the object in the air. Your cat will run, jump and leap as they try to catch its prey. They will not rest until their foe is defeated!

  1. Boxes of Fun:

For the D.I.Y master, why not build a box fort for your little adventurer to explore? Create a cubby house by grabbing some cardboard boxes and cutting out entrances, passageways and pits for your cat to scavenge through. Your curious kitten with love conquering and claiming themselves to be the king or queen of the castle! Try throwing in a ball or some food to liven up the quest. After all, every great explorer needs a fun challenge to keep the story interesting!

  1. Hide and Seek:

This classic game can be played in a number of ways so you and your cat will never be bored. If your cat is the seeker, hide in a spot and peak out so they’ll notice you. Watch as your little predator stalks you like you’re their prey. Be careful. Cats can be crafty and will sneak up to you before you know it. If you prefer to be the seeker, lay out some paper bags for your cat to hide in. Of course it’ll be easy to find them as they cannot keep still in their teeny tiny forts. Make sure the bags are handle free to avoid choking. Have some fun and poke the bags. Your cat will whip out their paws so their disturbance will be gone!

It will be impossible for you and your cat to be bored with this list of games. Every day will be a fun-filled feline frenzy!

When someone says Easter, what comes to your mind? Chocolate, eggs, and of course, bunnies! Rabbits are one of the cutest pets to have around. With their twitching noses and fluffy ears, it’s impossible not to fall in love with them! In keeping with the Easter theme, we’ve decided to pay tribute to our favourite fluffy hoppers and come up with a list fun facts about rabbits!

  1. Rabbits or Bunnies?

Rabbits and bunnies are the same animal. There is no difference except your preference of name! However, they are different to hares, who are larger, have longer ears and are typically less social.

  1. Litters of Litters:

It is pretty well known that rabbits have large litters. They can start producing from the age of one, with litter sizes ranging anywhere from one to sixteen. But another fun fact is that they can have multiple litters in one year. Rabbits are only pregnant for about a month and they can be impregnated right after giving birth! That’s a lot of babies!

  1. A Green Diet:

  1. My Dear Rabbit:

A male rabbit is called a buck and a female rabbit is called a doe. Yep, that’s right. Just like deers!

  1. Hippity Hop:

Rabbits are very playful. They love playing with their toys and can be taught to play fetch. Whenever they’re happy, rabbits jump in the air with joy, flicking their feet and head. This adorable motion is called a binky!

6 Things Your Dog Doesn’t Think You Understand

posted by The Daily Fluff March 1, 2017 0 comments

It’s safe to say that you and your dog are best buds. No one can argue about your special connection. However, you two are different species. So there are some moments when your pooch may feel like you’re not quite feeling their vibe.

That’s why we’ve come up with a list of 6 things that your dog feels that sometimes you don’t understand so you can both get on the same page!

  1. “Speak in Dog, Please”

Do you ever have those moments when you’re trying to give your dog a command, but no matter how many times you raise your voice, they just won’t listen? Well, that’s because they don’t speak English. They may understand the tone of your voice, but without body language, they may just look at you with a dumbfounded expression. If you ever have trouble giving your pet commands, try matching a hand gesture with each one so your dog can have a visual cue too. For example, if you want your pup to sit, point to the ground while speaking.

  1. “Is it Dinner Time?”

Whenever you’re in the kitchen, you may find your pup standing behind you giving you the puppy eyes. While this may seem endearing, your dog might be thinking that it’s dinnertime, even after you’ve just fed them. This may turn into a discipline issue, especially if they get in your way or if they become aggressive. Teach your pet a signal to make them leave the room or to stay in a spot that’s safe and away from you. If they do the right thing, feel free to give them a treat afterwards.

  1. “That Walk Was Quick”

Your dog may love going on walks with you, but if you’re one of those people who likes to jog or only has time for a quick walk around the block, your dog may not be able to stop and smell the roses…or anything, for that matter. Going on walks isn’t just exercise for dogs; it’s also their time to go out and explore their world. You wouldn’t like it if your friend wanted to go home after spending five minutes at the shops. Even if you’re just walking around the block, let your dog embrace their surroundings. They may sniff around or go to the toilet. As long as you still have them on your lead, let them have a good time while you’re walking.

  1. “Well This Is No Fun”

After a long day at work, all you want to do is cook dinner, watch TV and go to bed. However, while you’ve had a busy day, your dog has been sitting at home waiting for you to come back and do something fun. But if you neglect them, your pup may get a little stir crazy and act out in different ways, like chewing up your shoes or hiding in your wardrobe. If you’re unable to take them for a walk, spend at least 15-30 minutes playing training games like teaching them commands or hiding something for them to find. That way they’re stimulated and learning some obedience skills.

  1. “Please Don’t Be Mad”

Dogs respond easily to the tone of your voice and body language. So if you’re acting tense after having a bad day, your dog is likely to absorb all that negative energy and become tense themselves, which could make them aggressive. However, dogs are the perfect medicine for a bad day. Take some time to relax and let them know you’re okay. Lie down on the couch, give your dog a pet and maybe even do some meditating together. Your pooch is the master of the downward facing dog, after all.

  1. “P.S, I Love You”

To your pooch, you’re their entire world. You’re their chef, maid and playmate. While you may have a life away from your pup, your dog feels differently. That’s why it’s common for them to feel lonely whenever you’re not around. This could lead to more acting out. If this is an issue for you, there are a number of ways you can improve this. Leave out some toys, talk to a trainer for some tips, or drop off your pup at a friend’s or a doggy day care. As long as you always come home, they won’t miss you for very long.

No matter what happens, you and your pooch will still be the best of friends. With these tips, your relationship can only become even stronger!

What are some issues you and your dog struggle through? Comment below and let us know!
