Tips For Keeping Pets Warm Over The Cooler Months

posted by The Daily Fluff May 2, 2017 0 comments

When you’re rugging up for the cooler months, don’t forget about your fur babies, too!

We’ve compiled a list of tips to help you keep them warm this winter:

Provide them with shelter:

Generally wind and rain comes hand-in-hand with the cooler weather. Shelters are important for all animals—whether it be dogs, cats, horses, rabbits or birds—to protect them from all of the elements.

Blankets and Beds:

Blankets and beds are great things to have for your pets. Have animals in a hut? Throw in some material to mix in with the straw. Parrot feeling chilly? Invest in or make a cloth hut to hang from the cage ceiling. It’s also a great idea to air out, rotate or wash the bedding daily or whenever damp or dirty—especially for the dogs that love to spend their days jumping in puddles and playing in the rain!

Layer on the jackets!

Jackets can be your pet’s very own transportable shelter, which helps ensure they remain dry and warm. Make sure you pay attention to changes in the weather so your pet doesn’t overheat, and keep in mind their natural coats and breed-specific characteristics. Not all breeds of animals require jackets, and, for some, a top-half waterproof jacket would be sufficient just to keep them dry. For those of you who love a fashionable pet outfit, we’ve started spotting the most adorable animals socks and hats—eeeek!

Make sure the heating is on:

If your house gets cold in winter and you’re going out for the day, you could put the heater on low so your indoor cat can still snuggle up to the hot air. All animals have their preferences!

Keep them inside at night:

If your pet isn’t already in at night, bring them inside to sleep—if possible—as nighttime is when the temperature usually drops even more. A room with floorboards or tiles is generally easiest for you to keep them in, so if they do sneak out of their bed their muddy paw prints can easily be cleaned up.

Get active!

It’s important to keep your pets active in winter to keep their blood and body pumping. Play with them inside, or take them for shorter walks so they can still experience the outdoors. Don’t let the cold weather make you forget about keeping them hydrated on walks.

Give them plenty of love:

Do we really need to give you another reason to snuggle up with your pets? We thought not!

Spring Fashion Looks For Your Pet

posted by The Daily Fluff September 8, 2016 0 comments

The sun is shining and the flowers are blooming—and your pets want to as well! Spring not only excites the fashion-minded, but also pet owners. We’ve come up with a collection of our favourite spring fashion looks for your pet, to help you make sure they shine!

Bandanas & Bow Ties:

Bandanas and ties can be worn all year round, but they’re still one of our favourite spring fashion looks for pets. Bandanas and ties are simple but effective, and you can get them in colourful and floral prints to suit the change in seasons.

Flower Collars:

Why not jazz up your dog or cat’s current collar with flowers. You can attach lots of little flowers all the way around, or even one large flower at the front or back. If you want a longer-lasting, durable collar, purchase some fake flowers instead. Just make sure all flowers are placed securely at the back of your pet’s collar so they can’t chew or eat the flowers off. And of course, if the flowers are irritating your pet or causing allergies, its best to give them a miss.

Light Weight Jackets:

Jackets are usually the most popular pet accessory. Even when the weather becomes warmer, jackets can still be a great accessory. Make sure the jackets are made from thinner, lightweight material, and if it gets too warm, make sure you take them off!

Rain Coats (because we’re all familiar with Melbourne weather!):

So spring isn’t instantly great, and the transition from winter to spring can sometimes be slow and stretched out. But, just because it’s raining doesn’t mean your pet can’t start celebrating the wet, spring weather! We love seeing tiny dogs in floral rain coats walking the streets with their owners.

Flower Crowns :

Flower crowns may not be the most practical pet accessory, but they’re so beautiful! Some dogs might just tilt their head so the crown falls off—and may or may not begin eating it—so it’s probably best to keep this accessory for special events only, such as photo shoots!

Fun Ways To Dress Up Your Pet

posted by The Daily Fluff September 8, 2016 0 comments

Admit it, you might play judgmental pet owner when you see a dog walking around in a nice knit sweater, but deep down you know that your dog would look adorable in one. Dressing up your pets doesn’t mean you have to go super OTT, it can be both practical and adorable too.

Unsure what to dress your pet in? Read on below for some great ideas…

Bow-collar and neckerchief:

For those of you who are new to the world of pet fashion, starting off with simple accessories is probably the way to go. A simple bow-collar, or neckerchief can be a great way to start.

Oliver the Cavoodle would definitely agree:

“When we have guests over or when I’m visiting friends, mum and I always open my box of neckerchiefs – it’s a white wooden Jack and Jill box with my name written on it – and we choose which neckerchief I’ll wear. My favourite brands are Toby Wigglebottom and Charlie and Bella“.

Sweaters and coats:

Keeping warm in the colder months can be difficult, especially for breeds like Sphynx cats and Chihuahuas. Sweaters or coats are a great way to combat the cold and the changing fashion trends. Most pet stores stock sizes down to extra small, meaning that they would definitely suit our feline friends too (if you can get them on them!)

Costume dressing:

Costume dressing is for those of us who completely and totally embrace the world of pet fashion. I mean, if you’re going to dress up, shouldn’t your furry friend be able to as well?

Not only will a costume make your pet look sassy-as-hell, it will also provide you with photos that will last a lifetime. With Halloween on the way, the internet is full of costumes for pets of every shape and size. No really, for every shape and size.

So whether you’re feeling conservative or festive, there are endless ways to spice up your pet’s wardrobe. If in doubt, why not let your pet decide?

We’d love to see your pet in their finest threads. Share your snaps with us on Instagram by tagging us @dailyfluffmelb

8 Winter Fashion Looks For Your Pooch

posted by The Daily Fluff July 30, 2016 0 comments

In winter we like to keep cozy, but we also like to keep it stylish. We want our threads to be warm while also making a statement, and our pets are no different! Despite the fact that they always look stylish in their perpetual fur coats, some enjoy a few accessories here and there to spice things up during the bleaker months.

We chatted to Alyssa, creator of Instagram account @luluandfinn to find out what her gorgeous instafamous Birman kitties enjoy when it comes to keeping things dapper:

“As Lulu and Finn are indoor cats I’d say their best winter fashions are simply their furry coats. Over the course of summer they’ll have a haircut or two, so winter is time to have a big, soft, fluffy coat. Our favourite fashions are usually bright blue or red as this accentuates or contrasts their eye colour nicely. I’d also say our favourite outfit for Lulu is her shark costume, but I don’t think she’d agree with the humans!”

A beanie, a bowtie here and there in complementary colours to your cat or dog’s coat or eye. These are simple ways to dress them up. If your puppy or kitty gets particularly chilly during long park walks you could try a dapper lined jacket or vest in houndstooth or even tartan. Scarves and snoods can also work, but pick a bright colour so you can spot it if your pet pulls a McGyver and escapes his woolly enclosure!

For lazy Sundays when brunch is served a la maison but there’s still a slight chill to the kitchen tiles or a frost creeping up the window panes, try out a nice fleecy onesie. Maybe you and your cat could even twin up in matching onesies or pajamas!

For the days when it’s so grey outside it’s pouring rain, but Fido is still scratching at the door begging to be let out for a walk grab yourself a scarf and umbrella, and a little waterproof and warming raincoat for your puppy. This will keep him dry on top and super cosy as well as prevent a million doggie water droplets raining down your hallway when you return from a wet jaunt in the park!

There are plenty of cat and dog sweaters available on the market today, whether your cat prefers argyle, plaid or something a bit more whimsical it’s easy to find the right print and style to suit all needs. You can even try a plain black hoody for the moggie entering its moody teenager phase.

If you and your cat or dog have been invited to a fancy dress party this winter don’t stress! We’ve got you covered there too. Whether the theme is horrifying or whimsical you can be sure to find Bat wings, ugly holiday sweaters and even ladybug costumes with a quick google search. Check out Nip and Bones for even more ideas for winter fashion for your pets!
